It's horribly insensitive, mainly because those lucky people will never have to face that possibility when they hit the end of their childbearing years. |

Hax: Woman wonders why married friends dropped her
Tue, 22 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT Dear Carolyn: In the last several months, I've had two of my married male friends, both of whom I have never dated, had a relationship with, etc., tell me their wives are uncomfortable with our friendship and have effectively ended it. I have known both of these guys for many years (between 10 and 20), and I knew both of them well before they met, dated and married their respective wives. I am not one to stand in the way of a marriage, so I felt I had no choice but to gracefully bow out, but how do I get over the anger, disappointment and confusion - and not hate the green-eyed monster who put a stop to two of my most valuable friendships? |

Thu, 24 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT Carolyn: I'll never understand how people can be freshly out of a long-term relationship and jump right back into the dating pool. Then when they start seeing somebody steadily, they have to freak out that it's getting serious. Shouldn't they really save the drama and keep to themselves for a while? Hax: Do wives often upgrade their wedding rings?
Wed, 23 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT Dear Carolyn: I've been married more than 30 years. About 20 years ago my wife and her friend took a trip, and my wife called me one afternoon and asked if I would mind if she "traded in" her wedding ring for a bigger, prettier one. Not sure if those were her words. I said OK. But it has bothered me over the years, and I'm sure her friend talked her into it. I have not really liked her anyway and am not sure if that is part of the problem. But could be. |

Carolyn Hax: Toddler needs room to explore your home
Sun, 27 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT Hi, Carolyn: Our toddler is getting to the into-everything-all-the-time stage. I think we should install drawer locks, remove things that can break/cause harm, and let him explore most, but not all other things. My husband thinks he just needs to learn not to touch, through constant repetition of "No, don't touch." Seems to me there is a limit to how much a little one can control himself. How do we resolve these different approaches, and come to some understanding? I'm assuming as he gets older, these kinds of issues will just get more complicated. |
