Eagle Rib Shack's younger, larger cousin brings same quality barbecue to Meridian
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT You know you're on the trail of good barbecue when the spicy scent of wood smoke hits you at least a block away. No matter how tight the city codes or sophisticated the restaurant's exhaust system, nothing can fully corral the aroma of real barbecue. By the time you stumble through the front door, you should be drooling, drawn to that smell like metal to a magnet. That's exactly how I found my way to Andrew's Rib Shack in Meridian. |

Movie review: 'Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?"
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT With his disarming "redneck" grin and his even-tempered even-handedness, we could do a lot worse than have somebody like Morgan Spurlock lead the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. |

Movie review: 'Under the Same Moon'
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT Movies that put children in jeopardy have to be handled delicately. There needs to be enough danger for the audience to become invested in the story. Too much danger, and the movie becomes manipulative or even exploitative. |

Movie review: 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT The Judd Apatow formula is so well-known by now that it might as well carry one of those "TM" trademarks. Nerd meets girl, nerd is afraid to get girl or gets girl pregnant, nerd loses girl, nerd obsesses over girl. |

Movie review: 'Married Life'
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT A repeated line in "Married Life" is the adage that one person can't build his happiness on another's unhappiness. But this sardonic cocktail of adultery, double-crosses, seduction and murder plots goes on to prove that not only can one do it, it's almost mandatory. |

The Sword: children of the hipster-metal grave
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT The monolithic songs of The Sword sound - almost freakishly - like Black Sabbath in 1971. In a proto-metal sense, these hipster headbangers from Austin, Texas, are the "Children of the Grave" that Ozzy Osbourne howled about while Tony Iommi laid down the butcher-block riffs that gave birth to modern gloom- and doom-metal. The Sword are the offspring that Ozzy might have spawned if the metal universe were guided by order rather than chaos - if, in this reality of good and evil, evil was good. Does that make sense? Urgh. Gimme another shot of Jager, dude. |

Check out comedian Josh Blue at Big Easy
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:00:00 MDT The rise of Josh Blue has been meteoric, and it's easy to see why: Blue, winner of season 4 of the TV series "Last Comic Standing," has a unique grasp of self-deprecating humor. Blue has cerebral palsy. He jokes that the disability essentially forced him into comedy: "People ask me if I get nervous before coming up on stage," he tells audiences. "I say, 'Heck no! I got this many people staring at me all day!'" Blue became a proud father last month - he's already kidding around about possibly shaking his baby - so expect him to be in fine spirits during both shows at The Big Easy. |
