Movie review: 'Kit Kittredge'
Fri, 04 Jul 2008 00:00:00 MDT Sweet, old-fashioned and sentimental to a fault, "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" is "Nancy Drew" with training wheels. It's a moist-eyed children's comedy-drama that dares to ask how much today's kids need to know about the Great Depression, or a Golden Age when all a plucky, smart girl could ever want out of life is "to be a (newspaper) reporter." |

Natural Wonder: Cooler spring delays nesting season for American dipper
Fri, 04 Jul 2008 00:00:00 MDT An adult dipper is outside its nest along Mores Creek and is getting ready to feed its little dippers. This photo was taken last weekend and some birdwatchers say the nesting season for the American dipper, or ouzel, is later this year because of the cooler spring. While most of us have the day off to celebrate the Fourth of July, this aquatic songbird will be busy catching food for its young. The bird feeds on underwater insects that it catches by swimming in swift creeks and rivers or by walking along the stream bottom. They can be seen dipping up and down, thus their name. |
