Fish rap: Indian Creek Reservoir is fishing well for bass
Thu, 08 May 2008 00:00:00 MDT Forgive me while I reminisce. Years ago I was encouraged to go check out Indian Creek Reservoir, but I never did. I couldn't get past the look of the pothole reservoir next to the freeway. It just wasn't my idea of a fishing destination. Then F&G put it on salvage rules (again, this was years ago), and I went out to see what was going to happen. I saw coolers full of big bass. I kicked myself for not at least trying to fish there before it went dry. Now it's coming back, and I heard a report of lots of bass in the 6- to 10-inch range. Nothing earth-shattering there, but there are probably some bigger bass lurking out there that could head into the shallows to spawn. The funny thing about those ponds and small reservoirs is you never know what you will catch. Sometimes, there are some monsters lurking. Even if there aren't, it could be a fun place to hit in the evenings or take a kid out for some fishing action. It's a short drive, so if fishing doesn't pan out, you can be home in a few minutes. |
